Surface
are an energetic hardcore band from Southern
California that mix emotion and metal with their
music. Hectic, screamed vocals and slow to mid-tempo
guitars give their music plenty of drive and
power. This seven-song piece of vinyl contains
not only excellent music but great lyrics which
address sexism, racism, and child abuse. Great
hardcore that makes you think.
You
may know Ex-Ignota from their 7" on Ebullition
Records. This is their first full-length and
the first time that the band has been able to
showcase their varied musical interests. Ex-Ignota
are capable of creating fast raging hardcore
songs as well as somber instrumental symphonies.
Fifteen exciting performances of experimental
hardcore that represent energy and innovation
in underground music.
With
Run Into The Night, The Reports have
crafted an extraordinary pop explosion, full
of potent hooks and addictive melodies. In spots,
The Reports veer close to Eighties new-wave
but always avoid sounding hokey, thanks in part
to blast of Pixies-grade guitar noise and the
extremely tout, driving tempos of the rhythm
section. Run Into The Night is The
Reports' fully realized work of charming post-punk
pop anxiety, full of surging, sweeping melodicism
and expansive heart-tugging tunes.
Their
debut album, Futura Transmitta, is
a discordant and passionate rock n' roll transmission.
The Seattle based three-piece seamlessly couples
arty introspection and math rock squall into
an inspired and experimental sound that pushes
boundaries and explores a vast range of music.
Death
Of Marat embrace the cool, delicately abrasive,
somber chill of Joy Division and early Cure.
And, like Sonic Youth and Unwound, they possess
a knack for balancing off-kilter musicianship
with catchy hooks and chugging beats. The trio
moves smartly from tangles of arty noise to
stretches of grace, often sounding distant and
remote while seeking to capture social frustrations
and the plight of desperate youth through powerful,
abstract imagery
Books
Lie’s debut album, It A Weapon,

expressing individuality, questioning the world
around you, and embracing one’s musical
community on an all-ages/DIY level - all while
striving to create a good time for all.
